Bluem and itsme enter strategic partnership

Amersfoort, 28 September 2026 - Bluem and itsme have entered into a strategic partnership to make trusted digital identity solutions more widely available across the Netherlands and Europe. Through the collaboration, organisations will gain easier access to secure identity solutions through a single, streamlined integration.

Demand for trusted digital identity continues to grow
Digital identity plays an increasingly important role in online customer journeys. Before a customer can register, log in, sign a document or approve a transaction, organisations need a secure and reliable way to verify who is behind the screen.

itsme is Europe’s leading digital identity app and market leader in Belgium, where more than 8 million people use the platform to identify themselves, register, log in, approve transactions, sign documents and share verified identity data securely online. Recognised at the highest European assurance level (eIDAS High), itsme combines ease of use with strong security standards. Following its acquisition of iDIN at the end of last year, itsme is expanding its presence in the Netherlands.

As a leading identity orchestrator in the Dutch and European markets, Bluem is proud to partner with itsme. Bluem strongly believes in the growth of the digital identity and trust market, in which proven solutions such as itsme will play an increasingly prominent role.

Building on a successful foundation
The partnership builds on a long-standing relationship between Bluem and iDIN. Following the acquisition of iDIN by itsme, the company is continuing and expanding that collaboration, bringing trusted digital identity capabilities to a broader range of organisations and use cases.

“Bluem integrates business-critical identity services for organisations across a wide range of industries. Our purpose is clear: to give customers access to best-in-class solutions through a single integration. itsme fits that strategy perfectly, and we are delighted to continue building our partnership in the years ahead,” Rieko Kester, CEO, Bluem.
"Trusted digital identity is becoming an essential part of digital customer journeys in the Netherlands. We see a need in the market for easier and more secure identity solutions. We are excited to build on Bluem's long-standing experience with iDIN and support the continued growth of digital identity in the Dutch market," Roderick Arts, Country Manager Netherlands, itsme.

About itsme

Since 2017, the itsme app has been the simple and secure reference for mobile identification and privacy protection in the digital world. Today, itsme has more than 8 million users and is adopted across more than 20 different sectors. With itsme, users can: identification (create a new online account and share identity details), authentication (secure and personal access to a website or application), approval of transactions (confirm a purchase or bank payment), electronically sign documents with legal validity (qualified electronic signature with the highest level of assurance), and, finally, share data from an authentic source with a third party (data sharing). These various functionalities account for an average of 50 million itsme actions per month, or more than 1,5 million itsme actions per day.

itsme was recognized as a digital identity by the Belgian government in January 2018 and at the European level in December 2019 (LOA high eIDAS). The application is widely used in the financial sector as it complies with PSD2, FATF, and GDPR regulations and has obtained ISO27001 certification.

itsme was developed by the Belgian Mobile ID consortium, which brings together seven leading players from the Belgian banking and telecommunications sectors: Belfius, BNP Paribas Fortis, KBC/CBC, and ING on one side, and Orange Belgium, Proximus, and Telenet on the other. In mid-2021, for the first time since the identity app’s launch, a government fund became a shareholder, acquiring a 20% stake: the Federal Participation and Investment Company (FPIM). Additionally, six other shareholders contributed extra capital, with the aim of taking further steps towards a European digital identity.

Today, the app is available in 32 European countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, the United Kingdom and Sweden.
